How It Works

Stamina on Wheat and Barley

Stamina gives wheat and barley growers a way to get their plants off to the right start in certain cold conditions with excellent disease control and improved emergence, stands and yields. It controls key seedling diseases to deliver healthier, stronger plants right out of the ground.

The Stamina formulation is built on F 500®, the same active ingredient found in Headline® fungicide. It is a seed treatment with a mode of action different from other seed treatments in wheat and barley: It inhibits fungal respiration, depriving the pathogen of energy for growth and development.

Adding Stamina provides broader-spectrum disease control, specifically against Rhizoctonia,Pythium and Fusarium species and dry seed decay, as well as quicker germination and more rapid emergence compared to untreated checks under certain cold conditions. In research trials conducted between 2005 and 2007, Stamina was shown to have activity against a broad spectrum of wheat and barley pathogens, including Rhizoctonia root rot, Fusarium seed rot and seedling blight, common root rot, dry seed decay, certain Pythium spp., common bunt of wheat and covered smut of barley.

Stamina on Corn

Field trials conducted throughout the U.S. during the 2006 and 2007 seasons confirm stand and yield improvements with Stamina in corn when compared to other standard seed treatments. Seed and seedlings are better protected by Stamina from key diseases such as Rhizoctonia. This is particularly important as earlier planting and increased use of no-till production systems may lead to slower emergence of seedlings due to cool, wet soils.

During four years of greenhouse and growth chamber studies by BASF, the seeds treated with Stamina showed increased germination and more rapid emergence compared to untreated checks under certain cold conditions.

Stamina is labeled for use on barley, corn (field, pop, sweet and corn for seed production), legume vegetables (dried shelled peas and beans), brassica and bulb vegetables, alfalfa, cucurbits, rye, wheat, cotton, sugar beets and sunflowers.

Sugar beet Application instructions for sugar beet

To provide protection from seedling diseases caused by Fusarium spp. and Rhizoctonia spp., apply as a commercial seed treatment at 1.7 to 5.1 fluid ounces of Stamina (0.022 to 0.066 lb ai/100,000 seeds) in or on a unit of pelleted sugar beet seed with a weight ratio of 2:1 pelleting mixture to raw seed (seed count 100,000 seeds, approximately 1 kilogram by weight).
